This dumb commercial is more fun and smile inducing than it has any right to be.

I think it’s fine (also stupid), but fine . You can’t really sell audio capabilities in a commercial by playing audio, and I’d  venture this is going to attract people to the car more than a Bluetooth connection walkthrough.

Thats pretty amusing. And I agree, audio really isn’t a great selling point. I mean remember when Fiat was toting Beats by Dre subwoofers in the 500s? Yikes.

From a general consumer standpoint a fun commercial may be enough to remind someone the Jetta still exists.

For enthusiasts it means nothing.

They’d stop playing commercials if they didn’t work. I figure this is the message they are trying to convey to the unwashed masses who don’t care about driving:

Car dancing - sends the message that the car is fun, is great for enjoying the ride , nimble on its feet

Zooming in on speakers and rippling background - the message says the sound quality is amazing and that makes the car enjoyable

Music playing in background - use some snappy synth beat in conjunction with the dancing car to try and make it relevant to some young idiot who just wants to pump his audio up with the windows down. But you can’t play hardcore rap in a mainstream commercial (gangs? MINORITIES?! scary. )

Narrator - tout the tech features so your recent shopping-for-first-car-and-can’t-do-new-car-financing-math trendy urban youth takes a gander and goes “hey, my phone works on that. and I can afford the monthly payments ” since many people who have poor judgment are also very brand conscious.

I mean, is it shit? Yeah. But it might work for idiots, and marketing’s gambling that there are more of them then there are of people who are fond of reality checks.
